Blood Bath

Penn State crushed Coastal Carolina today 66-10. It gets somewhat harder next week when the Oregon State Beavers come to town. Read about the game from people who actually get paid to write. Here is the PSU recap (GoPSUsports) and the Coastal Carolina recap (GoCCUsports)

There is even better news as The Bowling Green Falcons upset #25 Pitt 27-17. Read about it here (BGSUFalcons)

Unions, Grievances, Arbitrators, And My New Favorite Song This Week

Here's the latest on the Pedro Alvarez mess. (Post-Gazette)
I knew this could happen. This team has been rebuilding since 1993. We all know Scott Boras is a douche bag so stay tuned...

My New Favorite Song This Week

This weeks favorite song comes from Scars On Broadway. The song is called They Say. Enjoy, you metal heads

News and Notes

The Pirates lose yet again, 2-0 to the Cubs this afternoon. It was the 7th loss in a row for the Bucs, and the 9th straight loss for Zach Duke. On the bright side, we are only 6 more losses away from making history. Woo-hoo!

The Pirates have placed Pedro Alvarez on the restricted list. Something tells me this can't be good.

Joe Paterno picks QB Daryll Clark over Pat Devlin. Good choice in my opinion. The Lions open the season at home against Coastal Carolina on Saturday. As of today, Betus.com has Penn State as a 40 point favorite. Quick... name Coastal Carolina's nickname (answer below)

Call me crazy, but I think Penn State can sneak up on some teams this year.

It's time to revisit a You Tube video from northoforbes last year. Wow, a lot has happened since the Pirates had a winning season.

Don't forget to check out the new blog roll!

Did you know it? The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (with a name like that, PSU better cover that spread!!!)

Christian The Lion

For those of you who do not know the story of Christian The Lion, enjoy. This may be the greatest thing I have ever seen on the Internet. (Well, 2 Girls 1 Cup was pretty good also). If this doesn't open the tear ducts, you my friends, are made of stone. Thanks go out to Joe C from Pittsburgh, a long time This Is Getting Old reader, for showing me this. I've always wanted a pet monkey, now I think I want a lion.

Gorzo's Back. Oh-No

Tonight Tom Gorzelanny and his 6.57 ERA and his more walks than strikeouts returns to take on the Brewers. Ex-Bucco Jeff Suppan goes for Milwaukee but let's face it, who really cares? Cubs fans? I hate the Cubs but I still won't root for the Brewers tonight. As a matter of fact, I won't pay one bit attention to this game. Tomorrow is another story. It will be fun to watch this weak hitting team go up against CC Sabathia. GOOD LUCK!

My New Favorite Song This Week

My new favorite song this week comes from Grand Ole Party. Think Janis Joplin mixed with The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Plus, you gotta love female drummers! I give you "Look Out Young Son".

Welcome Big Ten Network

As I was flipping through the channels last night, I noticed that Comcast has added the Big Ten Network. As of now, Penn State has two games on the BTN. The always tough games against Coastal Carolina and Temple. A third conference game will likely be added as well. Now I will need a better excuse to sit in the bar on Saturday afternoons. Hell, I don't need an excuse

Get The Brooms Out!!!
The Mets go for a 4 game sweep this afternoon in Pittsburgh. Paul Maholm will once again try to stop the bleeding. Let's hope that he does because I'm sick of my Phillies friends jumping on me about how much the Pirates suck. Yo Phillies fans, win your own games. For some reason, FSN Pittsburgh does not air weekday games so it looks like I may be headed to "The Box" to watch it. When will the brains at FSN realize that the American workday is no longer 9 to 5? There are more people working earlier and getting out earlier. Also, more Americans work 3rd shift now than ever before in it's history. (I don't have the statistics to back that up, but it sounded good). I would much rather watch day games than those west coast games. Hey, an excuse to go to the bar

The Future Looks Bleak

With the 11th hour signing of Pedro Alvarez, many Pirates fans are stunned. Did the Bucs just actually pay someone? There is still a lot of work to do. Let's take a look at the farm teams

Indianapolis- 59-68, 19GB, last place
Altoona- 56-71, 18GB, 5th place
Hickory- 16-38, 20GB, last place
Lynchburg- 49-75, 22GB, last place
State College- 11-43, 22.5GB, last place

Something tells me almighty Pedro might not be enough

No Pirates TV Tonight

That's a good thing I guess. The Pirates are bumped from FSN tonight for preseason football. Yes, the Steelers playing games that don't count matter more than Pirates games that do. Now what do I watch before bed? How will I ever fall asleep without the help of my Buccos? I hope I have some Unisom left.

My New Favorite Song This Week

My new favorite song this week comes from Matt Pond PA. I have no idea what the PA means. I know this CD came out last year but it is new to me ( I love my Vcast song id). The song is called Sunlight off the CD Last Light. Wow, there is a video... enjoy!

Nice comeback...

The Pirates beat the Mets today in a makeup game from earlier in the season. The Bucs got 3 runs in the top of the 9th off Aaron Heilman to win the game 7-5. Ryan Doumit singled to tie the game and Steve Pearce hit a two run single to give the Bucs the lead. John Grabow saves the game for Denny Bautista who got the win. Good, I hate the Mets.

Pics from APW

Kings Of Leon were great, The Virgins rocked, and Radiohead was, well, Radiohead. Here are some pics I took from my phone

So close...

Jeff Karstens pitched a 2 hit shutout today as the Pirates beat the D-Backs 2-0. Karstens lost his bid for a perfect game with two outs in the 8th when Chris Young doubled. No Pirate has ever pitched a perfect game in the regular season.

Just a few weeks ago I watched this guy pitch for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. In his first two games for the Bucs, Karstens has not allowed a run. I think I have a new favorite Pirate.

3 days away!!!

This weekend i will FINALLY see one of my favorite bands live. All Points West takes place this weekend in Jersey City, NJ. I have been waiting years to see Kings Of Leon in person and soon I will. Not to mention Radiohead, The Virgins, The Black Angels, and many more. I will never get to see them all but all I need is KOL. I will leave you with this youtube clip. Later...

My new favorite song this week

My new favorite song this week comes to us from The Cool Kids. 88 of their debut CD The Bake Sale is just catchy as all hell. I'm not a big fan of rap (I mean hip hop, I'm showing my age) but this song has been stuck in my head for days now. If you are tired of the same crap over and over on the radio, check out 88. They are bringing it back!

What do I do with them?

Now that Jay Bay has been traded, what do I do with these bobbleheads? I mean I like Bay and all but I root for the name on the front, not the back. Back when the Pirates traded Brian Giles for Bay and some other guy, I had no idea who he was. Let's hope we got a Bay or two in this deal (or maybe a Mantle, Schmidt). Hey, at least i have these bobbleheads.

Nady Who? Today Jeff Karstens pitched 6 shutout innings and the Pirates beat the Cubs 3-0. Good, I hate the Cubs.
