Stay Classy, Philadelphia

I heard it was a pretty good time after the game last night in Philly. The streets were packed with screaming fans but there weren't many arrests. But at least there were a few assholes out there. Philadelphians at their finest moment.

Game 5b Tonight

A few thoughts on the World Series. First off, most ballparks stop serving beer after the 6th or 7th inning. Hmmm... If that's the case tonight, forget about it. I'm not going to freeze my balls off sober. Also, I have 9 in the pool from Monday so I'm predicting 7-2 Phillies. If the Phillies do win, I predict a riot. How disappointing will it be if Philadelphia fans stay calm? Please, start fires, turn over cars, smash windows. DO US PROUD!

Terrelle Pryor, We Thank You!

Yes, Pryor is going to be a hell of a player the next 3 years. But this year, we thank you. Thank you for choosing Ohio State over making your daddy happy. Thank you for thinking end zone on 3 and 1 and fumbling. Thank you for the hail mary interception at the end of the game. Thank you for sucking!

Hellllllooooo Scranton!

The great town of Scranton has been in the news lately. Joe Biden, The Office, Me. For some reason the "news" stations think Scranton is a critical city in the upcoming election. I guess they have never been here because the only thing people care about are .35 wings. Here are some links about our great city.

A lot of people are talking about the SNL skit a few weeks ago when Scranton was hilariously blasted. After the touch me commercial, skip to the the 5:45 mark, priceless.
The Wicked Wrister

But wait... some people do like us Wall Street Journal

and finally... please remove your caps and stand. Let's all welcome Joseph to the writing staff of TIGO. He will receive the same pay and benefits as the rest of us. Joe is a former Scrantonian who moved to the 'Burgh a few years ago. The last time I was at his house he made me a cheesesteak with cole slaw and french fries on top. Dude, get back to Scranton! Anyway, Joe knows his sports, music and much more than me so I welcome him. If anything this blog will only get better. Here is his high school graduation picture.

Top 5 Underrated Hair Metal Songs Of All Time

Here is my personal list of the 5 most underrated hair metal songs of all time.

#5 Salty Dog- Come Along. A band I like to call the poor man's Guns N' Roses, Salty Dog had just one album, Every Dog Has Its Day in 1990.

#4 White Trash- Apple Pie. Released in 1991, their self-titled CD was actually successful. Like many hair bands in the '90's they disbanded soon after.

#3 Trixter- Give It To Me Good. Off their debut album, which went gold, Trixter had a string of hits in 1990. Then grunge came and we never heard from them again. There was talk of a reunion tour but that's as far as it went, talk.

#2 Gorky Park- Bang. Gorky Park was a Russian glam metal band who toured with Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, and Cinderella. Their biggest moment was when they played at the Moscow Music Peace Festival in 1990.

#1 The Quireboys- 7 O'clock. Known as the London Quireboys in the US, the band broke up in 1993. At least they gave us the #1 hair metal song of all time!

There you have it, one man's opinion. Yes, it is a lot to take in but what else did I have to do today? I know some of the video quility sucks and the sound varies from loud to quiet but this was the best I could do.

It's Always Sunny In Tampa Bay

The Devils are headed to the Fall Classic. Tampa Bay beat Boston 3-1 in game seven last night and will now play the Phillies. The laughingstock of Major League Baseball is no more. MLB is going to need another door mat to laugh at. Hmmm... I can think of a team who hasn't won in almost two decades and it doesn't look promising in the near future. Anyway, I was reading a blog a few weeks ago and half way down the page I saw this. That's a smart man right there!

The Penguins are at Boston tonight at 7pm. This is the Pens first "real" road game of the season. I hope Michel Therrien sticks with the Dupuis-Crosby-Malkin line.

Penn State is #3 in the 1st BCS poll. Next week will decide if the Lions will play for the National Championship. You have to believe that Texas and/or Alabama will lose. Penn State will not play in the BCS title game with one loss, they must go undefeated. If they get by The Ohio State University, I think the Lions will do just that.

and finally... Someone in the Bucs front office needs an old media guide.

Not everything was perfect in Tampa last night.

1st Half- Lots of Valium, 2nd Half- Good Times

I have to admit it, I was extremely nervous for the first half of the game. All I kept thinking was "here we go again". Then the drugs kicked in, Penn State looked like Penn State, Michigan stopped looking like USC and returned to looking like Michigan, and all was good in the world. Next week should be fun when we go to the horseshoe. I better call my dealer.

What a day for Tampa Bay
The best words in sports, GAME SEVEN. Tonight the Tampa Bay Devils and Boston will decide who plays the Phillies in the World Series. Also, the Seahawks play the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. I bet all the bandwagon jumpers will be watching the baseball game in Tampa. The good folks of Tampa didn't even know their city had a baseball team until a few week ago.

The first BCS standing come out in a few hours. More on that tomorrow.

and finally... Don Cornelius, host and creator of Soul Train was arrested in LA for domestic volience. "... and you can bet your last money, it's all gonna be a stone gas, honey! I'm Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!"

November 16, 1996

The above day was the last time Penn State beat Michigan. The Wolverines won the last 9 meetings and hold a 10-3 series lead. Back in 1996, the #1 song was The Macarena from Los Del Rio. This week it's Whatever You Like from T.I. At least people still listen to crappy music. Independence Day was the top grossing movie in 1996. So far in 2008 it's The Dark Knight. The most watched TV show back then was ER, now it's CSI. That's a lot of acronyms. The price of gas was $1.42 a gallon! Now it's your right middle finger. I'm not one to make predictions so I won't but the steak ends Saturday! Michigan's best player may be their punter and his first name is Zoltan. Hopefully we will see a lot of him Saturday.

The Chinese Are Screwing With Me

There has been a lot of talk on this blog recently about the Chinese. There is this weeks poll question, the Guns N' Roses debate from Joseph. Well, I went for Chinese food the other day and this was my fortune. What did I ever do to the them? Maybe they just got fed up with me for asking for extra hot sauce. It can never be too spicy.

I rely on my after dinner cookie for advice and hope. Now they are just screwing with me.

The Lions jumped to #3 in the AP Top 25 poll this week after crushing Wisconsin, 48-7. Penn State made a statement last night and now I am officially excited. Texas is the new #1 team after beating Oklahoma, last weeks #1 team. Here's the rest of the rankings.

10 Reasons Why I Hate The Phillies

#10. The Fans. Are there any more obnoxious fans than Philly fans? They boo their own star players. They boo Santa Claus. They cheer when an opposing player gets hurt. Enough said.

#9. Mike Schmidt. Schmidt may be the best 3rd basemen ever who is not nicknamed A-Rod. Still, his 500th homerun came at Three Rivers off of the Bucs Don Robinson in the top of the 9th to win the game.

#8. The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. For 17 years the Phillies Triple A team was in my hometown, Moosic, Pa. Then they went to Lehigh and we get the Yankees. Bastards.

#7. Comcast Sportsnet. The Phillies games air on Comcast Sportsnet which is not available on Direct TV. I don't have Direct TV, I have Comcast. Anyone who is a Comcast subscriber knows that Comcast sucks. Man, I should switch to Direct TV.

#6. Crab Fries. Chickie's & Pete's crab fries are a fan favorite. French fries with Old Bay seasoning, Yum. If you want some, be prepared to stand in line for 3 innings because they are slower than shit.

#5. There is nothing to do before or after the game. Unlike PNC Park, Citizens Bank Park has nothing around it within walking distance. There are no bars, restaurants, or strip clubs. Just get in your car and leave.

#4. The Phillie Phanatic. WTF is this thing? The Parrot is much better. Plus the Phanatic has no street cred like the Parrot. Where did all the NL Superstars go for their cocaine in the mid 1980's? You got it, The Parrot.

#3. The Longest Losing Streak In Sports. The Phillies had 16 consecutive losing seasons from 1933 to 1948. Our Pirates will break that record next year. Take that!

#2. The Schuylkill Expressway. Aka "Surekill Expressway". Why does it always take 45 minutes to go 5 miles for a Phillies game, no less?

#1. The National League Central. I grew up hating the Mets and Phillies. Now with the Pirates in the Central, we only play them twice a year. I just don't have that same hatred towards the Astros and Brewers, and I miss that.

What that being said, I'm still a Pennsylvania guy so BEAT L.A.! (hope I didn't touch a nerve)

My New Favorite Song This Week

This weeks favorite song is from Scarlett Johansson. Yes, that Scarlett Johansson. Many actresses have tried "singing" in the past (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Alyssa Milano) but this is actually good. Here is Falling Down.

Baby Pens Crushed By Candy Bars

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins lost their season opener last night to Hershey 8-4. The Bears went 5 for 7 on the power play. Ouch. Pens goalie Dave Brown was pulled after the first period after giving up 4 goals on 12 shots ruining new head coach Dan Bylsma Penguins debut. Ouch. Next up is the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday in Wilkes-Barre.

The stock market is taking another beating today. Speaking of beating, "Pac-Man" Jones beat up (allegedly) his bodyguard. Who saw this coming? What's next, T.O. starts causing trouble again... um... never mind.

My Morning Jacket lead singer Jim James was released from the hospital following a fall at the University of Iowa during a concert. Check out MMJ's new CD Evil Urges, one of 2008's best.

The Office returns tonight. Thank God it didn't get bumped for these two again.

Penn State fans, check out my favorite PSU blog The Nittany Line for all things Penn State. Trust me, don't get your Penn State news here since I'm usually drunk and have no clue what I'm talking about.

The Lions are currently a 6 point road favorite. There are 2 games tonight. UAB at Houston and Clemson at Wake Forest. Houston is a 18 point fav while Wake is -1.5, according to The Money Line Journal Let's see... coin flipping in air... I'll take the Blazers and the Tigers.

The NLCS starts tonight. Get your Phillies Phix from We Should Be GM's

and finally... The NHL starts in North America tonight with 4 games, 3 of those starting after 10pm. Because the Penguins are not one of them, that's all I got.

I Have A Gambling Problem

I can not win a damn game. I think I lost my last 5 or 6 games and won just 1 of the last 10. Take last night, switched teams at the last second. WHAT A LOSER I AM. At least there are no sports on tonight, besides some crappy college game so I won't be a loser again. What the hell, I'll lay the 3.5 and take Troy on the road. Wow, I'm betting Troy. I need help.

The Remote Control Was Working Overtime

What a weekend. Where do we start? The Pens and Sens split in Sweden, the Phillies and Dodgers advance in the MLB playoffs, and Sage Rosenfels single-handedly gives the Indianapolis Colts a win over his Texans.

I'm not sure what is worse, being a Cubs fan or a Pirates fan. Here's to another 100 years of sucking.

Today is the last day to register to vote in Pennsylvania

I would like to "tap" her

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm done watching sports for the rest of the week. Oh wait, the Devils-White Sox game is coming on. Gotta go...

PENN STATE 20 PURDUE 6

The real life called today so I didn't see a second of the game but I did listen to the whole thing on the radio. The Offense looked, I mean, sounded shaky, the Defense played outstanding and Penn State rolled again. Are the Lions this good? The next 3 weeks will tell the story. Penn State is at Wisconsin next week, followed by Michigan at home, then at The Ohio State. Even though the Offense struggled at times, Clark, Royster and the rest of the crew did enough to make things look easy. A couple of more upsets this week and the Lions are a top 5 team.

Go Ball Go! Lanny Frattare Retires

Pirates play-by-play announcer Lanny Frattare retired today after 33 seasons. Please tell me this doesn't mean more Greg Brown. I broke my mute button this past season when he did the games. ATTN PIRATES MANAGEMENT or FSN (I'm not sure who does the announcer hiring) I AM AVAILABLE. I HAVE NO BROADCASTING EXPERIENCE BUT I WILL WORK CHEAP...SOMETHING I KNOW THE PIRATES LIKE. I did own a Mr. Microphone as a kid and had a college radio show 16 years ago so I think I'm qualified.
