Carlos Zambrano Suspended 6 Games

Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano was suspended 6 games by Major League Baseball today for his hilarious outburst against the Pirates yesterday. He will not appeal. He will be able to pitch next Thursday against the Braves. I love how the Cubs announcers think Morgan was out. He was safe.

All Points West 2009 Line-Up Announced

This years line-up is a little better than last years, not that last years was bad or anything. If you are planning to go this year and you didn't go last year, here is some advice. If you are staying overnight, stay in Manhattan near Ground Zero or Wall Street and take the ferry to the concert. It was only around $20 round trip and there was a few of them running all day long. There is no reason to get a hotel in Jersey City. I'm not sure what parking was like but even the concert promoters suggest public transportation. Don't go there to get drunk because that won't happen. You are only allowed 5 drinks per person. Considering that the gates open early (11ish I think) and the show doesn't end until Midnight-ish, you have no choice but to pace yourself. You are better off doing other things than drinking (bring a lighter). There is plenty of room so if you want to go sit in the grass with friends you can. The three stages are pretty far from one another so you really only here the stage you are by. If it's hot out, there are spray tents to cool you off. You will spend some time there, trust me. Last year was well organized and everyone seemed to have a blast. I know I did. My must see list: Tool, The Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, The National, Beastie Boys, Arctic Monkeys, The Cool Kids, MGMT, Elbow, Silversun Pickups, The Gaslight Anthem, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Now if they only let you get drunk...

Former WBS Pens Head Coach Glenn Patrick To Coach Prep School Hockey

Glenn Patrick was the first ever coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Under his watch the Pens had a 115-152-38-15 record in his four years, including leading the team to the Calder Cup Finals in 2001. Patrick also spent time as a scout for Pittsburgh. Yesterday Patrick agreed to coach for Wyoming Seminary, a prep school in Kingston, Pa. near Wilkes-Barre. Before the Baby Pens came to Wilkes-Barre, this area wasn't much for hockey. Sure people knew who Wayne Gretzky was but they couldn't tell you what teams he played for. Mario Lemieux? The people of NEPA had no clue who he was. They thought he was a character in a Disney movie.

So good luck to Coach Patrick. Wyoming Seminary has had some talent come through Kinston. Eric Tangradi, who was acquired in the Kunitz/Whitney trade, is currently in the CHL. Others include Arpad Mihaly who spent some time with the WBS Penguins, Dennis Packard who is with Bridgeport of the AHL, and Ales Parez who is playing in England.

Patrick last coached for the Wheeling Nailers from 2005-2008. Now he gets to stay in his adopted hometown to do what he does best, coach.

Look What I Got In The Mail... Part 2

I have an addiction and I need help. Instead of shooting black tar heroin, smoking crack or popping painkillers, I buy bobbleheads. Sick, I know. My addiction has cost me thousands of dollars and countless amounts of laughs behind my back. Here is my newest "doll". Doesn't it look more like Khalil Greene than Nate McLouth? I've been searching the interwebs looking for a bobblehead addiction hotline or something but no luck. I might have to do this cold turkey. In just 3 weeks it's Honus Wagner figurine night. Wooo. How much is it to switch to heroin?

Pirates @ Nationals Liveblog

Once again TIGO will be joining Raise The Jolly Roger for tonight's live chat. Join us. Most of the people that chat during the games are smart Pirates fans and know their stuff. And some are just punks. There's a lot of play by play stuff if you can't see the game. Sometimes there's too much of that and not enough "chatting". Help us change that. Here is the pitching match-up. The game is on FSN. Go Bucs!

Pens Win

Marc-Andre Fleury was once again brilliant stopping 23 of 25 shots as the Pittsburgh Penguins hung on to a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in game one of the ECF. The Pens got goals by former NEPA resident Miroslav Satan, Evgeni Malkin, and Philppe Boucher. Game two is not until Thursday because the NHL wants to be like the NBA a have every series drawn out.

Canes vs Pens and Bucs vs Nats

The Eastern Conference Finals finally start tonight. Carolina vs. Pittsburgh. Lets get our drink on [Puck Huffers]. I'm not going to pretend that I know a lot about the Hurricanes. The game is at 7:30 and is only on Versus. Go Pens!

Pirates @ Nationals tonight at 7. The game is on FSN. Ross Ohlendorf (4-3, 3.77 ERA) goes for the Bucs and Ross Detwiler (0-0, 0.00 ERA) goes for Washington. It will be Detwiler's first career start. Go Bucs!

Faith. Hope.

In just a few hours we will know if our team advances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It's been a roller coaster season. The firing of Michel Therrien. Disco Dan Bylsma replacing him and taking this team on a tear we will never forget. Geno Malkin winning the Art Ross Trophy. All that is history. Game 7. Pens vs Caps. This has been the best playoff series I have ever watched. It will be even better around 10pm when the Pens advance. Faith. Hope. Yeah, the fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins have that. We also have the better team. Not that the Caps are far behind. Sure they can win the series. But will they? Not this year. Faith. Hope.

Everyone has bad memories of game 7's.

I still have to turn my head every time they show that replay. Fuck you Sid Bream. The fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins are not ready to turn our attention to this thing they call Pirates baseball. Not yet. Not until Lord Stanley is back in the Burgh.

But we also have some good memories. Remember the Patrick Division semifinals in 1992? Pens 3 Caps 1 in game 7. That led to this...

So I'm ready. Bring it on. The Pens won in Washington the last time they played there. They sure as hell can do it again tonight. Faith. Hope. Go Pens!

It Aint Over 'til The Fat Lady Sings

The best two words in sports. Game 7. Win or lose this is a great series. Fuck that... we won't lose. If you are not into this game then go away. I don't think we can hang anymore. This should be the best of 11. Gary Bettman would be for it. He may institute a rule next year that if the Caps and Pens play again, it's for the cup. Wednesday will be crazy. Bring it. Fleury will. We have the better team. DO IT! Go Pens!

Eight is Enough

The Pirates lost to the Mets today. That's eight losses in a row. That is bad. The Pirates are who we thought they were. Go Pens!

Fourth River (Out of Pittsburgh) - Cool Jam Session

When people think of Pittsburgh, they usually think of the city of three rivers. The Allegheny and the Monongahela Rivers meet at the Point and form the mighty Ohio River.
Start to become familiar with Fourth River. The coolest part about this is the fat ass bongo player was my first college roommate. He's a chemical researcher for the Bayer company by day, but a PHAT ass bongo player by night. He used to get really high and play in the nude. I've never seen a man's boobs shake quite the same since. If your into the Dead, Phish, or bands like such, I think you will enjoy a listen.

My New Favorite Song This Week

In the mood for something dark yet melodic? From Minneapolis, meet Greycoats. From their debut album Setting Fire To The Great Unknown, this is Goodbye, Sweet Youth, Goodbye. You could hear a little Sigur Ros and maybe a little Bends-era Radiohead in them.

Pirates Lose Again, Pens Alive and Well, Indy Drops a Pair

The Pirates managed just four hits today dropping a 5-2 decision to the Saint Louis Cardinals. Last year they couldn't pitch. This year they can't hit. The losing streak is now at five. It's on to Flushing to play the Mets over the weekend. No TV tomorrow because of the Pens game.

Speaking of the Pens, I'm still exhausted after last nights 3-2 overtime win. Wow, what a game. It was that type of game that made me a hockey fan long ago. All of a sudden we are back in this thing. The Caps are a good team and this will be a tough series to win. The Pens are also a good team. Penguins in 7.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pens also got back into their series with Hershey last night winning by the same score, 3-2, in overtime. Mark Letestu scored the game winner. Game four tomorrow.

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees swept a double header from Indianapolis today winning 7-2 and 9-3. The first game started at 10am. At least I had something to listen to at work.

Don't Hit The Panic Button Yet

Ok, I'm over it. There's still six games left.
