Game 125- Phillies @ Pirates Liveblog
The rubber match. The Pirates have a tough pitcher to face tonight in J.A. Happ. Luckily for the Phillies, they didn't trade him at the deadline. Not much more to say. Our bullpen sucks so Charlie Morton must go deep in this game for the Bucs to have a chance. Although that didn't work out too well yesterday. The Pirates have the same line-up as as the did yesterday, also. Lets hope it can score some runs tonight. Go Bucs!

Game 124- Phillies @ Pirates Liveblog
After last nights game, I am looking forward to watching the Bucs again. Some Pirates fans still want this team to tank so they have a shot at Bryce Harper in next years draft. Not going to happen. I want to see this team win a series against the World Champs. And I want them to keep winning. Strange, I know. I guess I'm not much of a fan. I could care less if the Bucs are in last or next to last. I never want them to lose, especially against a team I hate. Join us in the liveblog below to cheer on the Bucs and vote on the poll question. Go Bucs!
Penn State to play at FedEx Field Next Year
Penn State will play Indiana next year at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. The game was scheduled to be a home game for the Hoosiers and will be played on November 20th, 2010. Penn State has always had a lot of players and recruits from the metro Washington, D.C. area and this is sure to help out in recruiting. I'm not sure why Indiana would give up this home game but I'll take it. There are PSU alumni all over the world and plenty in the D.C. area. It will be like playing Temple on the road, a sea of Blue and White.

Phuck the Phillies
I hate Philadelphia sports teams. I guess its been that way forever. Growing up in Scranton you were either a Phillies fan or a Yankees fan. I choose the Pirates. I think it had to do with my father winning me a Pirates garbage can at a carnival when I was about 5 years old. I never looked back. Phillies fans are no way near the douchebags that Flyers and Eagles fans are. In Philadelphia, I'm sure they are the same people. But here in Scranton, not so much. I have friends who like the Phils and the Steelers. Go figure. That's just how it is here. Although I hate the Phillies, this so called instate "rivalry" just doesn't mean much anymore. The Pirates suck and since Pittsburgh moved to the NL Central, they only play a home and home series against them. That's too bad. Ask Phillies fans and they would agree. Not because they would get more wins, but if you look around PNC Park tonight, you will see a lot of red. It's a drive across state to see your team in the best ballpark in America. The last time these two teams played, the Phillies looked like World Champions and the Pirates looked like a last place team. Not much has changed. Join us in the liveblog below. Unless you're a Phillies fan. Then go hid your dogs. Football season is just a few weeks away (I know, how orginal). Go Bucs!

My New Favorite Song This Week
This weeks favorite song is from The Features. Its hard to believe this band has been around since 1994. Their new album Some Kind Of Salvation is not only good, it is one of the years best. This is Lions.

It was 30 Years Ago Today...
This weekend the Pirates are celebrating the 30 year anniversary of the 1979 World Championship team. That means throwback uniforms and lots of Disco music. Here are some things that happened this week in 1979.
#1 song- For the week of 8/18 it was "Good Times" from Chic. It got somewhat better the following week when The Knack's "My Sharona" took over the top spot.
The top rated TV show was 60 Minutes followed by Three's Company, That's Incredible, M*A*S*H and Alice.
In sports, Alabama won the college football championship, Michigan State won the basketball championship, Seattle won the NBA, Montreal won the NHL and Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl and World Series. CITY OF CHAMPIONS!

"Indians and Hispanics don't live in Scranton!"
This is awesome. Family Guy is nominated for an Emmy for best comedy series. They have some stiff competition. Entourage, The Office, Weeds, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother and Flight of the Conchords are also nominated. Flight of the Conchords??? I just never thought that was funny. This clip, on the other hand, is hilarious. I like to laugh at Scranton's expense. Entourage, The Office and Family Guy are all great shows. I hope one of those win it.

Stop the Press- Bucs Win!
It wasn't that long ago that the Pirates couldn't beat the Brewers. Now they have won 3 of the last 4 against them. Last night the offense looked good. Every time the Brewers got a run the Bucs responded. Andy LaRoche, Garrett Jones and Ronny Cedeno all went yard and Pittsburgh pounded out 16 hits on their way to a rare win, 9-5. Kevin Hart got his first win as a Pirate and for once the bullpen didn't blow up. Its only one game but the losing gets to you. Last night was the first game I watched the whole way through in quite some time. Maybe its because there was nothing else I wanted to do or maybe I was hoping to see a bench clearing brawl. There is still time for the brawl. These two teams do not like each other and with the Brewers playoff chances slipping away, anything can (and hopefully will) happen. It just makes boring August baseball that much better to watch. Go Bucs!

How Low Can You Go?
I'm not sure what's worse, getting drilled 17-2 or losing to Tom Gorzelanny who struck out 8 in five innings. The Pirates are bad. I thought after all the trades this team would show some fight but it looks like they already packed it in for the year. Zach Duke had another good outing but the team managed just five hits to lose 3-1. These games are getting harder and harder to watch. Garrett Jones is lost, Lastings Milledge has not lived up to the hype and Matt Capps just needs to go away. Steve Pearce is one of the few guys on the team that looks like he wants to be a part of it. Stay tuned. This is going to be a long two months.

My New Favorite Song This Week
If you like Kings Of Leon, check out Red Light Knights. If you think they sound alike, you are correct because the band has another Followill cousin in it. From their myspace bio:
Here is this weeks favorite song, Rodeo Clown from a band that is sure to blow up soon, Red Light Knights
"Papa was a Rolling Stone"....well not quite. This rock quartet is building steam like The Little Engine That Could. Slowly soaking up fans across the county lines to across the country lines, Red Light Knights are the band to watch. Proving that birds of a feather do flock together, these boys are following in the footsteps of their Followill brethren burning a trail across the South to across the Pond. As stated in the band's bio "Red Light Knights is all about rock", well that and cars and women and raising hell. There must a paragraph in the Followill family credo about making music that makes you want to clap your hands and stomp a foot. "...they come about it naturally...", do they ever? Rockin' car stereos and home computers as part of their attack on the internet, "this four-some has already created quite a stir in Europe and have attracted fans worldwide".
"Their music is raw with passion of young angst with a feel of yesteryears rock and roll. This band plays their hearts out at each show and always gain new fans no matter what the venue is. This band is all bout rock and roll and living the rock and roll dream."

Ok, Ok We Give Up!
Tonight Pirates Lineup:
Cedeno, SS
Milledge, LF
Young, 2B
Jones, RF
Pearce, 1B
LaRoche, 3B
Salazar, CF
Jaramillo, C
Ohlendorf, P
Good job, JR. You do realize your team had 1 hit last night, right? Lets say, for arguments sake, that Cutch really is feeling that glove to the face last night. Where's Moss? Where's Doumit? Don't give me that match-up shit. If this is the team moving forward then play the guys that will be a part of that. Doumit should be well rested considering all the time he has missed. Jones can play CF (well, maybe not but its still a better option). Salazar has no right being in the lineup or even still on this team. This should be challenging. Anyway, Go Bucs!

What Ever Happened To...
Al Pedrique? Remember him, the weak hitting shortstop for the Pirates from 1997-1998? The thing I remember most was that he was named to the Topps All-Star Rookie Team in 1988 and was the starting NL All-Star shortstop in the video game RBI Baseball for the original Nintendo, the best baseball game ever!
Acquired by the Pirates along with Scott Little for Bill Almon in 1997, Pedrique played just two seasons with the Bucs with the majority of his time at shortstop. He also saw time a second and third base. In his two years with Pittsburgh he hit .259 with his only career home run coming as a Bucco. He was released following the 1988 season and played one more year with the Detroit Tigers.
Following his retirement, Pedrique manged in the minors for Arizona, Houston and Kansas City. In 2004 he was the third base coach for the D-backs and took over as the interim manager after Bob Brenly was fired. When Barry Bonds was going for his 700th home run in the 2004 season, Pedrique had him intentionally walked throughout the entire series. Cowardly? Yes. Funny? Yes! He is currently the Minor League Field Coordinator for the Astros.

Game 105- Nationals @ Pirates Liveblog
The four game series against Washington continues today at 7:05. If there was ever a must win for a team with a 45-59 record, its tonight. The Nats are bad. Really bad. Really really bad. No way should this series be a split. The game is on FSN. Join us in the liveblog below. Go Bucs!

My Weekend With Mascots
See what happens when I leave town? What was the problem today? At least I got to see two great games Friday and Saturday night. McCutchen is better than advertised. Two wins against a team worse than the Pirates. In two years that list of teams worse than the Bucs will be a lot longer. All time the Pirates are 10-4 with me in attendance. The only explanation for that is I am getting very lucky. Oh, and the Pirates are getting better. 2011 is going to be a fun year. Count on it. I couldn't even imagine how fun that is going to be. Thursday night was spent at Blair County Ballpark and man, was I impressed. Every time I drove to Pittsburgh I passed by the park and always wanted to go. Every single minor or major league park should be that cool. The fact that you can sit so close is great. There really isn't a bad seat in the place. We were Rail Kings which means we had a waitress on $2 beer night. FTW! It looks like I will be making a yearly stop in Altoona, as well. Go Bucs!
