On a Valentines Day afternoon, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Nashville Predators after lackadasical play throughout the game. Many of the players on the team took an "early vacation" and played as if they were already on the Olympic Break. The players who did show up were goal scorers and Olympians Sidney Crosby and Brooks Orpik. Matt Cooke also scored on a Jordan Staal rebound. These performances were not enough to overcome the Predators, led by Martin Erat (had a goal in regulation and in the shootout (above)) and Shea Weber (goal and an assist). Jordin Tootoo also added a goal for Nashville. All but five of the Penguins will have over two weeks of rest during the Olympics. The five that will be participating are Canada's Sidney Crosby and Marc-Andre Fleury, Russia's Evgeni Malkin and Sergei Gonchar, and Brooks Orpik representing the USA (right). The Penguins do not play until March 2nd at home against the Buffalo Sabres.
