Multiple media outlets are reporting the Pirates have somehow traded recently DFA'd RHP Joe Martinez to the Indians for future considerations. Martinez is another in a long line of stiffs Neil Huntington has taken a waiver on at the deadline who have been moved for nothing or next to nothing (not that going after a guy like Martinez was a mistake).
Martinez only pitched in 5 games at the ML level for the Pirates, all of which were out of the bullpen. He struggled mightily in his time with the AAA Indianapolis Indians before his callup and was DFA'd to make room for pitcher Kevin Correia.
Martinez was a redundant pitcher in the Pirates organization, so his movement comes as little surprise. In fact the most surprising part is that they got a return at all for him.
