The Steelers have announced the signing of tight end John Gilmore. Gilmore was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2002, but never played for them. He spent his first six year with the Chicago, never collecting more than ten catches in a season and only scoring three touchdowns.
Gilmore then signed a three year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he had two touchdowns and a total of thirty one receptions.
The book on Gilmore is that he is a good blocking tight end which appears to be what the Steelers are looking for. He provides almost zero offensive upside though and could very well just be a body to compete.
Another interesting note on Gilmore is that he went to High School in West Lawn, PA, and attended Penn State University. Gilmore was awarded the Hall Foundation Award.
