Pirates Reach Deal With Morton, Hanrahan

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached one year deals with pitchers Joel Hanrahan and Charlie Morton.  This comes after they also reached a deal with reliver Chris Resop earlier.

Joel Hanrahan was just recently married and now he is $4.1 million richer.  Hammer got a $2.7 million raise over his salary last year of $1.4 million.

Hanrahan was the team MVP last year after picking up 40 saves and posting an ERA of 1.83.  Last year’s All Star might actually end up as the biggest piece of trade bait the Pirates have.

Morton’s deal is for $2.445 million.  Morton rebounded last year but struggled mightily against lefties.  He also underwent offseason hip surgery but is supposed to be ready for Opening Day.  Last season was his first ten win season.  He ended the season 10-10 with an ERA of 3.83 after struggling for a bit in the middle of the season.

The Pirates still have four arbitration eligible players left, Jeff Karstens, Garrett Jones, Evan Meek, and Casey McGehee.

I would expect all of them to probably agree to deals before Wednesday.
