Now I’m not one to be contrarian but please forgive me for not jumping up and down for joy about Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder going to the American League.
That’s not what I want. I don’t want to back into the playoffs. I don’t want to back into a division title. Sure I will take it but that shouldn’t be what we are rooting for.
I am a baseball fan. I want to see the Pirates compete against, and beat, the best teams in the league. I want to see a great pitcher taking on Albert Pujols. As a fan that is what I live for.
It’s pretty pathetic when you think about this offseason. The Pirates best free agency moves were made by other teams! If the Pirates finally win the division this season it will be more because the talent level in the division has dropped off, not that they have gotten much better.
The only thing positive is that maybe the Pirates success, if there is any, will draw fans and maybe one day they can make big moves on their own.
Sure it might lead some to cheap wins, but it also takes away from the product on the field.
