Now, for the rest of you, welcome.
I’m going to tell you why I think Dwayne Johnson beat John Cena last night.
Let me preface my thoughts with this though. No one, maybe even WWE creative, knows where this is going right now. Light will be shed tonight, but it could be a while before this all plays out. Which I love. I hate seeing short-sighted story-lines that play to the mouth breathing, short attention span crowd.
So should we be surprised Dwayne won? Hell no.
Do you know why?
Because he is the celebrity. The celebrity ALWAYS wins at Wrestlemania. Dwayne (who I won’t refer to as the Rock for the foreseeable future) is not a Superstar. He is not a wrestler, anymore. He is a celebrity. He is promoting movies, not digging in his heels for a return to the ring. Dwayne hasn’t returned for anything but self-promotion.
What John Cena has said in the build-up is true. Much truer than the Rock marks want you to believe. This Main Event was actually a celebrity match.
A more experienced Snookie.
John Cena carried the match. Johnson looked pretty bad in my opinion. Cena also dropped the main event of Wrestlemania, for the second year in a row.
That actually tells me something. It tells me that the “Cena Haters” are way way off base. Cena loses. He isn’t Super-Cena, any more than Chris Jericho was Super-Cena, kicking out of the GTS, and breaking the Anaconda Vice from CM Punk.
Cena gets criticized for exactly what everyone, face, heel, whatever does. Why though? Because he is the big dog? Because he is clean cut?
I’m not a Cena fan by any stretch, but people should be realistic. He puts guys over, constantly. He put Punk over. He put Miz over. Now he put the Rock over.
And he’ll get little credit for what must have stung his ego.
