I guess Jeff Karstens didn’t go skeet shooting, because he was really good.
For all you out of market fans, the Pirates came is the free game on MLB.TV today.

Mark Rogers, RHP (26)
Well hello Mr. Rogers? Have you done any drugs lately?
When players get suspended for repeated violations of the MLB drug policy it says a lot about their intelligence, or lack thereof.
Mark Rogers got suspended 25 games last year for using a banned stimulant.
I guess we can still consider him a rookie because he only had four appearances last season. Just what the Pirates didn’t need. Another freaking awful rookie to come out and dominate them.
And by awful I mean it. He was brought up after the Zack Greinke trade, but he didn’t deserve it.
Check out these AAA numbers this year.

The only thing worse are his MLB numbers.

Notice the strikeout numbers though. That’s bad news for the Pirates.
Rogers has made just one quality start this season.

A high strikeout pitcher that the Pirates have never seen just screams disappointment.
So in the Small Sample Size Splits Section we have the fact that lefties hit him pretty hard.

Erik Bedard, LHP (33)
I’m very much near the end of my rope with Bedard. At some point you gotta just move on. I’m sure the Pirates will keep him around to show other veterans that they won’t just dump them, but the Pirates have better options. Can Bedard win you some games? Absolutely. Can he give you a few good starts? Sure. Can he do it on a consistent, or even regular basis? Nope. Not at all.
I don’t foresee him handling a trip to the bullpen well so maybe it’s time to just cut the cord, these four and five inning outings are killing the bullpen. It’s just not worth it.
Bedard is averaging just 5.2 innings per start. Unacceptable.

Two awful outings in a row. Milwaukee roughed him up when he faced them. I’m just struggling to find a reason to keep him in the rotation. I was a huge fan of the signing, and it looked like it was going to work early on, but injuries have taken their toll.
At least he has been good at PNC this year.
