Looking Ahead: Pitt (3-0) vs. Oakland (1-2)

Pitt’s fourth game of the year will be against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Saturday at 7 o’clock.

The last time these two teams met was the 2010 NCAA tournament where the Grizzlies were defeated by the Panthers in the first round of action 89-66.

The Panthers look to improve to 4-0 on the season, just as they should be at this point considering the competition that they have been matched up against. This will be the Panthers last big test before they go to the Garden to play the number five team in the nation in the Michigan Wolverines.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies have been putting up very meek numbers against Boise State and Louisiana Lafayette when it comes to the defensive end. The Grizzlies are among the worst in both points against and rebounds for. However, the Grizzlies post remarkable offensive numbers, putting up an average of 85 points per game. Yes, they have not played the best of teams, but they do have shooters that will be a good test for Pitt before they go and play a national powerhouse.

It will be almost impossible for the Panthers to stop the three point attack of Oakland who currently holds the seventh longest active streak among all NCAA teams for games with a three point field goal. The last game that they have not hit a three pointer in was in 1988.

The Grizzlies main threat will be their 6 foot 4 inch guard Duke Mondy who is putting up an average of just about 20 points per game.

The most height that the Grizzlies have will come from 6 foot 10 inch sophomore Corey Petros who is averaging 12 rebounds a game. I do not see him being too much of a threat to the height of Zanna and Adams, but it will be a good test for sure.

The Grizzlies are not a joke of a team either. In the recent years they had a respectable run in the CIT tournament, and then previously two appearances in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

This will be a good final tune up for the Panthers. Hail to Pitt!!!
