Final: Penn State 53, Nebraska 67
Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. DAMN.
Penn State has fallen to 8-15 overall, and 0-11 in the Big Ten, while Nebraska improved to 12-12 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
This was Penn State’s last shot at achieving the somewhat unthinkable: getting a conference victory. It was another PATHETIC effort, just terrible offense, again. NO TEAM can win a game in which they go nearly ten minutes without a field goal in the first half. A lot of teams wouldn’t be able to get a win when their best player goes 4-14 from the field. Most teams can’t win when basically their entire starting lineup gets in foul trouble to begin the second half, Newbill, Travis, and Brandon Taylor all were in significant foul trouble late in the first half.
Ross Travis led Penn State with an outstanding 13 rebounds, and Penn State also got some help from an unexpected contributor, Alan Wisniewski. He added 6 points and 8 rebounds. Jermaine Marshall was solid overall, he struggled with his shot, but made his free throws, going 8-8 while scoring 16 points.
This team just can’t shoot, I can’t remember ever seeing a team that shoots under 40% from the field so consistently. They are consistently awful. Penn State shot 29% tonight. 29%.
Penn State did shut down Shavon Shields, Nebraska’s freshman guard that went off for 29 points against Penn State in Happy Valley, so that’s a positive. However, Nebraska had 3 players in double digits in scoring, Dylan Talley (16), Brandon Ubel (14), and Ray Gallegos (11).
Nebraska only shot 32% from the field, that is probably a mix of awful offense and great defense. Penn State has played fantastic defense all season, the offense has just been holding them back. However, they did shoot 41 free throws, that’s too many.
Okay, I’ve had enough. To sum this one up, another day, another loss. Life goes on. Penn State fans should be used to this by now, there’s always next year, right?
Penn State’s next game is at home against Iowa on Thursday, February 14th, at 9:00 PM.
Nebraska’s next game is at Indiana on Wednesday, February 13th, at 7:00 PM. Good luck to them. They’re sure as hell gonna need it.
