Rob Biertempfel is reporting that the Pirates will extend Clint Hurdle. This announcement came on Twitter so I can’t share the status as I am blocked.
Clint Hurdle has led the Pirates to a record of 151-173 over his two years as Bucco skipper. That’s a winning percentage of .466. That number is shockingly close to what he did with the Colorado Rockies where he had a winning percentage of .461 in eight seasons.
Now, I might be just a simple blogger, but to me that winning percentage doesn’t seem so good. That doesn’t exactly scream extension to me.
I could be mistaken but this is the same manager that oversaw the abysmal collapse of the Pirates after the All-Star break two years in a row.
In fact Clint Hurdle has had one winning season in ten years. One.
Hurdle has abused pitchers, stuck to baseball myths like the sacrifice bunt, and double switches more than Lloyd McClendon on crack.
What Hurdle is though is a good guy, which shouldn’t be discounted. Hell he did an interview with us.
Being a nice guy doesn’t qualify you to be a manager though, and he needs to show some results. Enough of these scholarships Neal Huntington, it’s time to shit or get off the pot.
