When: Thursday, March 14, 2:30 pm
Where: Chicago is the site of the Big Ten Tournament
Yes, it’s true. Penn State still has a shot at going dancing. All they have to do is win the Big Ten tournament! The mission starts Thursday (tomorrow) against the Michigan Wolverines.
Penn State played Michigan tough both times in the regular season, losing by eight at Crisler Arena and pulling off the major upset at the BJC. Penn State finished the regular season 10-20 (2-16), and the final game was lost at the buzzer on a deeeeep three pointer by Wisconsin’s Traevon Jackson. Michigan ended up 25-6 (12-6) and finished their season off with a loss to Indiana.
D.J. Newbill and Jermaine Marshall (neither even received Third-Team All-Big Ten Honors) will need to play well again to beat Michigan. You know the drill, the guards need to produce and Sasa and Ross need to have better than average games to pull off the upset.
I’ll just sum this up easily, because I don’t feel like writing this that much right now. Here is what Penn State is going to have to do to make the NCAA tournament (with likely opponents, obviously the teams aren’t all decided, but I’m going with the top seeds): Beat Michigan, Beat Wisconsin, Beat Indiana, and then beat Ohio State in the Championship. That doesn’t seem to hard, does it?
How great would it be for Penn State to go dancing after the season we’ve all suffered through though, am I right?
