The Pirates made a surprising move today, sending Bryan Morris to Triple A. The writing was written on the wall for Bryan Morris when he was given a rare fourth option. When I wrote my Roster Watch it was before he was given the option.
Bryan Morris is one of the best options for the bullpen. He won’t be used strictly for keeping players that may or may not have a future with the team. All those “just minor league deals” are now having an effect on high upside players. This isn’t a baseball move, it’s an asset protection move.
Nothing like sending a guy that has absolutely nothing to prove to the minors in his prime. A move only the Pirates would consider logical.
The Pirates also cut Ivan DeJesus, Jr., which I figured was a done deal after they acquired John McDonald.
Jared Goedert is a career minor league infielder who had basically no chance at making the team.
