Jeff Goodman released his first edition of his 2013 Transfer List this afternoon, and two Penn Staters were on the list: Patrick Ackerman and Akosa Maduegbunam. It is unclear at this time where the former Nittany Lions will transfer to.
Ackerman was seldomly used during his time at Penn State, and he was suspended early in the 2012 season for violating team rules. Once I heard about the suspension, I had a strong feeling that Ackerman wouldn’t be returning to Penn State.
Maduegbunam transferring was also easy to predict, there’s no room for him on Penn State’s roster as it is currently assembled. Penn State will carry a lot of guards next season: Tim Frazier, Jermaine Marshall, D.J. Newbill, Geno Thorpe, John Johnson, and even walk-on Kevin Montminy. Montminy was the backup point guard for much of the season, over Akosa. I figured Akosa was going to be transferring when he lost playing time to a walk-on.
