In case you missed it the Pirates were featured on Jeopardy
A good day for Inge, but more importantly a good day for Jeff Locke. His strongest outing of the year.
Hopefully he was able to earn himself at least one more start. He has shown flashes. He really just needs to work. Continue to plug away. The potential is there.
The bullpen “should” be able to breath a bit easier today.
Wandy Rodriguez will take the hill on this MLB Network drawstring cinch bag night! That’s right folks, if your favorite thing in the world is MLB Network get on down to the ballpark and get your nifty drawstring cinch bag.
Sure it might look like something you’d get for donating blood but hey, it’s free.
And if it’s free, it’s for me!
Pitching and being short. Those things are a “cinch” for Wandy! So is looking like Ron Perlman. I’m never, ever, ever going to stop that.
There is no shame in looking like Clay Morrow. It beats the hell out of looking like a sick and destitute Brandon Inge, as pictured about doing the “conZpated”.
Wandy has given the Pirates two quality starts thus far. The non-QS was that freaking game where he hurt himself. The one against the Diamondbacks where my arch-nemesis Jeanmar Gomez got the win.
Outside of the gimpy game he hasn’t even given up a run yet. Wandy has been dominant. The only surish thing in the rotation at this point in time.
Including that game where he nearly died he has given up a criminal five hits in 16.0 innings. Wandy currently has a WHIP of 0.375. He has walked one batter.
I don’t think we’ve really appreciated how good he has been. Seriously, I understand it’s three games but he has been really freaking good. He deserves a ton of credit to this point and is really thriving in that quiet Ace role.
He’ll need to keep it rolling against a team he has been very unspectacular against in his career.
You’d think with all those K’s compared to walks the WHIP would be much better but they’ve always hit him well .301/.345/.456 in 111 plate appearances. Of the 24.2 IP, 12.2 have been at Philly. He has given up 18 of his 31 hits there and has a 7.11 ERA at Citizen’s Bank Park.
It won’t be easy for the Pirates either.
We might be catching him at a bad time too. Hims turned it around since those first two starts.
We all know the story about Halladay. He struggled, then he saw Charlie Morton pitch. After that Halladay stole his delivery, got injured, came back throwing better than ever, the rest is history.
His last two outings were efficient. They are something we’ve all come to expect. This is a guys that has led the league in complete games seven times. Nearly half the seasons he has been in the majors he has led the league in complete saves. That is stunning for a guy heading into his sixteenth year.
He’s a Hall of Famer. No doubt.
Last year he destoyed the Pirates in his only outing against them.
They hit .080/.148/.080 in that game. I would be remiss to keep him out of the Pirate killer ranks I think. It’s only been six games but, my god.
It’s really hard to like this matchup. That’s why that first game was so important. You can’t play in the past though. Game is tonight. Halladay has looked exceedingly ordinary at times this year. Who knows what could happen?
Wandy will just have to bring his A game. I have faith he will.
