Jonathan Sanchez is in the bullpen today. The fact that he is still on this team is outrageous to me. Not only is he terrible, he completely screwed the bullpen for the rest of this series.
Sanchez should not get another start. Sanchez should not have the opportunity to stay on as a reliever. Phil Irwin or Jeanmar Gomez should take his next start with a roster move depending on whichever route they take.
Unless of course Francisco Liriano is ready. In that case just bring him up and cut Sanchez. The experiment has failed. I know how hard it is to break up with a lover, someone you pined over for years, but the time is now Neal. Get rid of your crush. There are plenty of fish in the sea and really, she isn’t even that good in bed anyway, am I right?
I don’t usually do this either, Tim Timmons shouldn’t umpire another game this series. Last night it was personal for him. He threw out Clint Hurdle prior to this and he really took it out on the Pirates. The Pirates hit one batter. Three Pirates were ejected during the course of the game. The Cardinals hit three batters AFTER the Pirates hit Allen Craig, none were so much as warned.
As Mellie pointed out it was an INGEjustice.
Get used to the puns because they are probably here to stay for a few days. Maybe weeks.
On top of that was an abortion of a third strike call on Garrett Jones with the Pirates knocking on the door.
Tim Timmons is awful. Tim Timmons should apologize. Tim Timmons should be suspended. He won’t be though. MLB doesn’t care about integrity of their officiating. Screw the Pirates over as much as you like, Jerry Meals says it’s safe.
Of course the Pirates didn’t retaliate. They didn’t hit anyone after Starling Marte was plunked, twice. Let’s not relive the damn Reds fiasco again. Grow a pair of nuts.
Thankfully, A.J. Burnett is on the mound today. I expect nothing short of rage from A.J., a chip on his should
, controlled fury, some domination.
That’s what I think of when I imagine A.J. Burnett. The unquestioned leader is tasked with saving the bullpen and winning a game today. He’s also tasked with a hardnosed performance, if he hits a guy or two so be it.
There can be no peace.
We need the tattooed badass, STFD, shhhhhhh, A.J. today. Attack batters and show these punks who the big dog really is. You can’t let these teams push you around.
I think A.J. Burnett is perfect to send that message.
Especially after his first start against the Cards. Seven innings of one hit shutout ball. Wanna show you aren’t intimidated? Do that again!
There doesn’t have to be blood today, but I wouldn’t be upset if there was a little extra red on the Cardinals uniforms.
His opponent will be Jake Westbrook.
Westbrook is off to a pretty hot start.
What doesn’t really show up there is what I believe to be a sort of turning point. Like the Pirates damaged Maholm, I think they did so to Westbrook.
The only difference is what happened to Westbrook didn’t happen. It was washed away by the rain. The Pirates put up four over two innings though. I said it in my preview for that game and I’ll say it again. He walks way too many batters. He doesn’t strike out nearly enough to make up for it. If the Pirates show some patience they will knock him out.
From that post.
The Pirates can get guys on against him. Last year was actually pretty bad for Westbrook against the Pirates.
The SO numbers were a bit higher than his overall stats but that’s to be expected against the Pirates. The Pirates struck out 1354 times last year, third in the league. They were led in that category by Pedro Alvarez, a man who struck out 180 times last season, good for a Top 35 ranking in regards to most strikeouts in a season.
At least he’s on a list, right?
