Right off the top let me mention that all afternoon games are FREE today on MLB.TV. A great chance for you to see a game if you don’t regularly have the opportunity to.
I find it funny when a company improves a product dramatically, at no increased cost and people complain that they haven’t improved it enough.
That’s exactly what happened yesterday when Root Sports cut away from half an inning of the Pirates game to show the Penguins game from the beginning.
Last season the Pirates game likely isn’t even on television at all due to the Penguins game. This season Root Sports has gone well out of their way to show Pirates games that conflict with Penguins games.
The Penguins are obviously going to take precedence until the Pirates have the same drawing power. Get used to it. It’s still a business, Root still has relationships to protect and clients to work for.
I for one am just thankful Root is attempting to show these games and opening themselves up to this kind of criticism when they could just as easily not show the games and no one would say a word.
Was a corner turned in Philadelphia for Jeff Locke? It was by far his best outing of the season. It was arguably the best outing of his career.
I’ll freely admit I like Locke more than most do. I think he has a solid repertoire and has the potential to be a very solid fourth starter for this team. In the future? He could be a three. It’s not out of the question. Therefore I’m happy he that he might have beat back the flames a little bit with that outing. If for only a short period of time.
The problem is the walks and the homers. I think the more he throws, the more comfortable he gets these will dissipate in large measure. 1.7 HR/9 and 4.6 BB/9 this season. Over a full season Locke has NEVER posted those numbers in the minors. The only time he has allowed more than 1 HR/9 was his very first season in Rookie ball. Even then it was just 1.1.
This’ll be his first appearance against the Cardinals.
The only loss of the season for Shelby Miller was his start against the Pirates. He has gotten a win in his other three starts.
Let’s not kid ourselves though, he was good in that start. He bounced back nicely as well. This will be a tough one for sure.
I had a feeling Andrew McCutchen would show us he still exists today. He seemed to start to find something yesterday.
He is not in the starting lineup.
