It’s pretty rare that you hype a pitchers duel and it actually happens. It did yesterday. A few dopey Hurdle decisions and maybe the outcome is different. What’s done is done though.
Did you hear that Pitt is going to host Penn State in basketball next season? This is awesome news for a formerly huge rivalry.
We go from a split of a two gamer with the Mariners to yet another four game series. This time with the Mets.
It seems like the Pirates are playing a ton of four gamers this season, this being the third one.
Last season they didn’t play their second four game series until June 25th against the Phillies. They had eight total.
This year they also have eight unless you included the two home/two road games with the Tigers later in the season as a four game series. There is no off day in between the two game sets and they are playing the same team so that is basically a four game series.
The four gamer with the Cardinals later this season has become a five gamer due to the rainout earlier this season.
I’ve seen this mentioned on Twitter a million times now so I’m sorry I can’t credit whoever mentioned it. I just don’t know who. If it’s you tell me, I’ll update the post if it’s a big deal.
Jeff Locke is pretty clearly the Ice Truck Killer from Dexter.
Maybe Jeff Locke should run with it. Some blood on the walls of the opposing dressing room is a great way to intimidate hitters.
In his last outing Locke was inexplicably pulled after giving up a bloop hit and a walk. The bullpen immediately came in and gave up the lead, eventually losing the game completely.
Locke was at 74 pitches. He allowed three earned runs though he was only on the field for two of them.
It as a stunning show of no confidence in a guy that had just given you two shutouts in a row.
I’ve been a massive proponent of giving Locke a ton of starts this season, it looks like that is going to happen both due to his performance and by default since no one can stay, or get, healthy.
The Mets beat his ass in his one start against them.
I don’t take much out of it though. I think he’ll do much better in his second go around.
The Mets will send Dillon Gee out to pitch. Gee has apparently been pretending to pitch as opposed to actually pitching. He has been atrocious this season with his only quality start coming in his first start of the season.
Lack of QS is concerning, so is the fact that he has yet to reach 100 pitches in a start this season.
It’s likely that an injury is to blame. Not a current one though.
Last season Gee noticed his right fingers were numb after an early July start. He went to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his shoulder. That ended his season.
One has to imagine that is a big reason for his struggles this year.
So the question becomes is this permanent or something that he just needs to work though. My answer is I don’t know. There is really no way to know how soon he’ll be back on track, if ever. I gotta root for the guy because that’s some scary shit. My rooting for Dillon Gee starts tomorrow.
