Alex Kline from TheRecruitScoop.com reported today that Miami (Ohio) guard Allen Roberts is transferring to Penn State to play basketball for Pat Chambers and the Nittany Lions.
It is a somewhat puzzling move, considering Penn State’s very good back-court. I would have preferred a Penn State to bring in a big-man, but it is still a positive. Bringing in Roberts allows the incoming freshman to be eased into Chambers’ system.
In his junior season at Ben Roethlisberger’s college (yea, a Ben Roethlisberger reference, because, you know, this is a Pittsburgh site; so now I have your attention), Roberts averaged 12.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg and 1.6 apg. He is apparently a great defensive player too. While he did average a very solid 12.3 points per game, he did it on 38% shooting.
Even though it’s not a big guy, it’s still a solid addition, so it’s a good day for Penn State hoops.
