So Gerrit Cole, right? Good outing, definitely something to build on. It appears he is going to do everything he can to stay on this team, which is great. There is really no need for Jeanmar Gomez to ever make another start for the Pirates.
This is a pretty huge revelation.
Hurdle also said that going forward, starters pitch counts mean nothing. He’s throwing it out the window. Cole included #Pirates

That’ll be tomorrow though. Today it’s Francisco Liriano. Liriano is looking to continue this bit of a resurgence he’s having.
It’s six starts but he is making Neal Huntington look fantastic.
If Neal Huntington looks good that’s a plus for all of us fans!
It’s also a very good sign when a guy can throw seven innings of shutout ball and it not be his best outing of the season.
I’m still not sure if I think he’s for real, and we’ve had some good results when I doubt him so I’ll say this, he’s gonna get rocked today!
Liriano has been completely unhittable against lefties.

|vs LHB as LHP||33||30||0||2||0||0||0||2||11||5.50||.067||.125||.067||.192|
The Giants have a lot of switch hitters though so they can really minimize the amount of lefties he faces. Not that righties are crushing him or anything, but they at least have a chance.
Believe it or not Liriano has never faced the Giants. That’s somewhat surprising despite being in the American League since the dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Liriano might have the ole “unfamilar domination” going on tonight.
The most overpaid pitcher ever will go for the Giants, Barry Zito.
Zito is a weird dude. He wears the number 75 because he thinks it makes a shelf for his last name. Either way this guy has one of the best curveballs you’ll ever see.
Is he terrible? I don’t know? I mean what the hell happened? McCovey Chronicles has a pretty funny article about Zito being scouted.
Look at these starts though. There is still a good pitcher in there somewhere.
Let’s just hope his curve isn’t workin’ today because that fastball gets punished.
Where Liriano is unhittable against lefties Zito is uber-hittable against lefties.

Hopefully Clint Hurdle doesn’t get himself into the mindset that he has to bench all his lefties because Zito is a lefty.
Zito faced the Pirates twice last year, averaging a quality start per.
Those numbers certainly aren’t spectacular but his Giants won both games he pitched. He actually won the worst outing, picking up a no decision in a seven inning, two earned outing.
Zito hasn’t been great, hasn’t been awful lifetime against the Pirates. Good ERA, bad record, bad WHIP.
First Pitch: 7:05 PM EST
