I’m not sure what was worse. That game, Brandon Inge, or Twitter afterwards.
People were screaming collapse. The usual suspects were writing it off as just a few bad breaks. Those same usual suspects were using the same tired mantras they used last year too. When they said it wasn’t a collapse.
Do I think this is a collapse? No. It can turn into that if Neal Huntington sits on his hands and does nothing. This just shows that the Pirates have major holes. Holes that need fixing. It shows how bad the bench is and screams for Huntington to do something, today, to rectify it.
Can you blame anyone for being pessimistic though? The Pittsburgh Pirates have been worse to the city of Pittsburgh than Bane. Hell, Bane wishes he could have bombed Heinz Field the way the Pirates bombed PNC Park last season.
Gerrit Cole is coming off his first big league loss, and he really didn’t take being pulled as well as you’d hope. Seemed kind of childish but whatever. He’s still young. It’s one thing to be competitor, it’s another to act like a douche bag.
Do you know why people are so in love with Cole? Because of his potential. His stuff is overwhelming and his upside is infinite. But he’s not there yet. In fact he might be the weak point in the rotation at this point in time.
Like I said, the guy has great stuff, amazing pitches, and flashes of brilliance. He won’t be as successful as he could be if he can’t strike guys out at a high rate though.
I think that’s why Cole is getting a pretty big pass. That and he hasn’t pitched “too” badly. Gerrit Cole, as currently pitching is upgrade-able though. He isn’t a key to this team success, right now.
In fact, he’s been downright bad against lefties. Something he’ll see a healthy does of today.

The A’s are a good team. The Pirates really don’t need to lose another game to them.
Dan Straily has some weird numbers. He has a good WHIP, good record, good HR/9, good BB/9, good so/9, good SO/BB, and his FIP and xFIP are all lower than his ERA.
It’s his first full year in the bigs after a cup of coffee last season and in my opinion seems to be pitching pretty well.
The knock can definitely be inconsistency.
He has never faced the Pirates.
