82 wins. Our long national nightmare is over.
I hate to say the Pirates need this series but we’re under 20 games. The Pirates have a ton of work to do if they want to win the division. They need this series.
They need Francisco Liriano to throw a gem. They need consistency. Last night was supposed to be the worst matchup for the Bucs. Now Liriano needs to prove that he is indeed an Ace, and that he isn’t just a bum that got hot for a while.
It’s imperative that our top pitchers stop giving up these abortions.
Liriano has been feast or famine. I don’t give a shit though, he needs to stop burying this team when he struggles. He carries them when he’s good, but my god does he bury them when he struggles.
At worst Liriano should be able to isolate the lefties.
Cisco Kid pitched quite well in his only start against the Rangers last season.
In addition he has been pretty good against them throughout his career.
He has some history with the Rangers, he’s pitched six times at Ranger Ballpark, so he should be pretty grounded for this one.
It’s crazy to think these guys weren’t thinking of win 82 a little bit, now that it’s over I hope the rotation can get it’s collective head out of it’s collective ass.
It likely won’t be easy as they’ll face young lefty Martin Perez.
Perez was American League Rookie of the Month for August and has won six straight starts.
He has six quality starts in his last seven outings.
Perez actually doesn’t have a platoon split like you’d think. Lefties really have no problem with him at all.
That’s weird but whatever. I hope Clint Hurdle still puts some righty action in the lineup against him because most of our lefties do the suck against lefties.
I don’t want to make it sound like he’s the greatest pitcher on earth or anything but this guy was a top 100 prospect as rated by both Baseball America and MLB.COM. He has some definite talent and upside.
He’s clearly beatable though.
He’s only faced Justin Morneau.
First Pitch: 8:05 PM EST
