I’m not going to lie. I know next to nothing about the Calgary Flames. I watch an unhealthy amount of hockey and even in that fact, I may have seen them play five times in the past five years. My first thought about this game was the hilarity that a west coast team was being forced to play a 1pm game. But then I saw that the Flames have actually been on an easy coast trip for a week now. So there goes that.
While the Flames are a bit of a mystery, I can at least talk about the Pens even though their roster seemingly changes every three hours. The shorthanded bunch will be looking to win their seventh straight game despite all of the injuries.
Good news is starting to come on the injury front though. Evgeni Malkin and Brooks Orpik both skated on Friday after sustaining leg and head injuries respectively. Also, Tanner Glass and Rob Scuderi look to be on schedule to return sometime during the Pens upcoming road trip.
This game is the last of a five game road trip for the Flames. A road trip in which they’ve lost three straight. A big reason for that is because they give up a ton of goals and don’t score many themselves. They average 2.41 goals for per game while they allow 3.06 per game. That’s not a good sign for them when they’re playing a team that is 21-2 when scoring first. I actually had to look up who Calgary’s goalie is. What is a Karri Ramo?
Whatever he is, there are three guys that he’s going to struggle to stop. Sidney Crosby is on a nine game point streak. Chris Kunitz has three goals in two games and Brandon Sutter has scored in three straight games.
Calgary will be without Dennis Wideman who is the only player currently on injured reserve for them. Must be nice.
