PSU Hockey @ Michigan State (Feb 13&14)

We Are… Ranked!!

Penn State climbed back into the top 20, but this status seems to be a curse as they are now 0-3 when playing as a ranked club.

Penn State was blanked 3-0 on Friday night in their first game outside of PA since winning at winning at Wisconsin Dec 5&6.  This loss was also their first regulation loss in 2015.  The two clubs go at it again today at 6:00.

Penn State @ Michigan State – Saturday February 14 @ 6PM ET – TV: Big 10 Network

-They were not the only high flying offense to be held off the scoresheet more than usual as Michigan only managed 2 goals against Minnesota in a 6-2 loss.  While this keeps Michigan just 2 points ahead of Penn State, the race for the conference title got a little tighter.  Minnesota is now 1 point behind PSU with Michigan State moving to 3 back.  Hopefully Penn State can manage to split with a win today.  They have not lost both games in a weekend yet this season in Big 10 play.

-Since it is Valentine’s Day, show Casey Bailey some love and go submit a daily vote for him at .  With a breakout season, Bailey leads the team in scoring with 19g (t-5th in nation) 14a 33p in 27 games.  I would love to see him take a run at 50.  While he is only a junior, I imagine there will be a few NHL teams giving him a look to potentially sign at the end of Penn State’s season as a free agent.  Boston has had him in camp before, so would not surprise me if they possibly try to sign him.

-As for length of Penn State’s season, they have 9 games remaining in regular season with 4 against Minnesota and 2 vs Michigan.  These will be large for the standings to get the best seeding for not only the Big 10 tournament, but to keep them in discussions for the national tournament.  They currently sit on the outside looking in, though winning Big 10 tournament would get them in.  This team has shown they can play with and beat good teams, some bad losses are really hurting their status at the moment.  While making the dance in just their third season as a Division 1 program is certainly impressive, it will still be disappointing if they just miss out with how good this team has played at times this season.  Luckily 4 of those big 6 games will be at home!!
